I WAS THERE

This is going to be the corniest thing you've ever read from me, and reveal me to be the geekeiest fan-boy you'd always feared, but what the hell:

In the 1981 movie "Excalibur" there's a scene where Arthur's knights gather on a hill after the last great battle to re-claim the land, and there, standing in torchlight and cheering, Merlin appears to them, and quiets them, and says:

"...look upon this moment.. savor it... rejoice with great gladness... great gladness! Remember it always, for you are joined by it. You are one, under the stars. Remember it well then, this night, this great victory, so that in the years ahead you can say 'I was there, that night with Arthur...'"

We made history last night. We had a great victory, and we are joined by it. We are one, under the stars. We elected a black man to the highest office in the land, probably the most powerful office on earth, and his name is Barack Hussien Obama. And I voted for him. I will remember it always. And I was there.

Oh, hell... I Went And Joined "My Space..."

Damn. I'm one of the great unwashed masses again.

Oh, who am I fooling? I've always been one of the great unwashed masses... (especially unwashed... ugh.) Anyway, I went and joined up at MySpace.com, and if you're reading this there's probably not much there you'll be interested in, but be my guest if that's your thing.

I recognize that LOTS of folks cruise MySpace and related sites, and that no matter what I thought of them, those sites could perhaps help get me and my art noticed. Always a good thing if you're in this tough art business... so I gone and done it. Not that long ago, I finally realized what a goober I was being making folks buy my entire CD "package" and resisting the idea of selling downloads... then it finally dawned on me... hell, if somebody wants to buy my music and not buy the whole jewel-box-shrink-wrapped package, sell it to 'em! What should I care? So I'm taking steps to list my music on CD Baby.com in the next few weeks (in time for the consumer orgy of Christmas, if I get my act together! Likewise, what does it matter what I think about MySpace? If lots of other folks like it, and it might help me be discovered, what was I waiting for?

That said, I'll admit that I'm gonna hardly update the MySpace page at all, so even if you do check it out don't expect it to change much from month-to-month, muchless day-to-day. I will, especially right now at the beginning of things, tweak it as I think of stuff to say and I'll add to the "friends" list so as to increase the traffic flow (which was, as I said, why I did this in the first place).

Again, I'd be delighted if you'd like to visit and certainly feel free to point as many others as possible in my direction... times is tough folks, and we artist-types gotta stick together and help each other out! Thanks for that, and by the way... if you wanna look at the MySpace page, I'm listed as "banjosnake" as there was already another "Chipper Thompson!" What the hell!?
